There are two types of printer
 connections in the printer setup dialog: &quot;<B>standard printer</B>

&quot; (printers that have been recognized automatically and other locally
 connected printers) and &quot;<B>other printer</B>&quot; (printers that are not
 automatically recognized, e.g. most network printers).</P>
<H5 class="western">Standard printer</H5>
<P class="western">With the setting
 &quot;standard printer&quot; all printers that have been recognized automatically
 are listed. Choose the entry for your printer from the list.</P>
<P class="western">There may be several
 entries for your printer if there are several port drivers for this
 printer port. E.g. a USB printers is listed once with TurboPrint's
 &quot;TP-USB&quot; port driver (URI = &ldquo;tpu&rdquo;) and once with the standard &quot;USB&quot;
 driver of the CUPS printing system.</P>
<P class="western">Choose the entry that
 contains &quot;<B>TP-USB&quot;</B> so that the printer status can be displayed in
 the TurboPrint status monitor even while printing.</P>
<P class="western" style="margin-left: 1.25cm">
<B>Note</B>: the printer must be connected and switched on before the
 TurboPrint control center is started. If the printer is not recognized,
 plug in and switch on the printer, then quit TurboPrint control center
 and start it again.</P>

A printer that is connected to a different local port &ndash; e.g. to the
 parallel port &ndash; may not be automatically recognized. If the printer
 port is in the list, simply select it. If you know the Linux device

<H5 class="western">Selecting the printer driver</H5>
<P class="western">Click on &quot;Continue&quot;. In the window &quot;<B>Choose driver&quot;</B>
 you should first select the manufacturer of your printer, then select
 the model name of your printer in the list below.</P>
<P class="western">The next step is to enter a &quot;<B>configuration name&quot;</B>
 and a &quot;<B>short name&quot;</B> for the printer queue. In most application
 programs you can choose your printer using the short name.</P>
<P class="western">Finally click &quot;OK&quot;.</P>
<P class="western">Setting up the printer in Linux requires
 administration privileges, so you will be asked for your administrator
 password. After entering the password a dialog will offer to print a
 test page &ndash; thus you can test if all settings are correct. You can also
 print the test page later from the TurboPrint printer &quot;Toolbox&quot;.</P>
<P class="western">If you have chosen to print a test page the printer
 should start printing a page that looks like this:</P>
